Manchester United, the English Premier League and Free Markets

Primier League

The past two weeks have been a disappointing week. Arguably the best team of the past two decades, Manchester United, has hit a rough patch. First a 1-2 loss to mortal enemies Liverpool then followed by a 1-1 draw with the Blues at the Bridge has to a certain extend created a chink in the aura of invincibility that has so far filled the heavens at the Theatre of Dreams. Having said that, don’t write them of just yet. Notoriously known as slow starters, the Red Devils have many a time started off slowly and in mid-table only to win the League each time in the past two decades. Sad to say, each time the rest had look in awe as the Red Devils would crush and steamroll all in their path. Continue reading

But it would be wrong. It may seem an inopportune moment to say that bankers might be the solution, rather than the cause, of the current turbulence. Yet it needs to be said.

ROBERT SKIDELSKY: Farewell to the neo-classical revolution?

THE looming bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the forced sale of
Merrill Lynch, two of the greatest names in finance, mark the end of
